About ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals

Founded in 2002 by Claudia Vecchio and Corinne Thaw, ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals is a non-profit grassroots organization, 100% volunteer based and strictly no-kill, promoting the humane treatment of all animals and the preservation of wildlife.

Our Vision: a world where humans live in harmony with all other animal species and all animals are treated with love, kindness and respect.

Our Mandate: to work toward ending euthanasia of companion animals, and preserving wildlife and its habitat.

ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals believes that sterilization, not euthanasia, is the only rational and ethical way to control pet overpopulation.
  • We campaign for, and promote, spaying and neutering of all companion animals
  • We locate suitable permanent homes for stray cats and for cats and dogs abandoned by their owners
  • We rescue, within the limits of space and financial sustainability, stray, abused and abandoned cats and dogs; we rescue, from high-kill shelters, companion animals scheduled to be euthanized.
Toward the preservation of Canadian wildlife endangered by urban sprawl, ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals is working to:
  • Acquire large acreages of forested land in sensitive areas to be preserved as permanent sanctuaries for indigenous fauna.
  • Solicit donations of private land to create oases where wildlife can live peacefully and protected.
Presently nearly 100 rescued cats and 14 dogs are under the care of ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals. We do not have a shelter nor staff, and all of the animals are housed in foster homes in cage free environments until suitable permanent homes can be found. ORA is strictly No Kill. The animals who, due to age, behavioral problems or health, cannot be adopted out, remain under ORA's care until the ends of their natural lives.

ORA-Organization for the Rescue of Animals does not receive any public funding and is supported only by your private donations. Please give generously, and help us to help a defenseless animal in need.
